Scouts Connect Around the World Through JOTA-JOTI

Scouts across the Transatlantic Council joined the worldwide Scouting community for JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet), celebrating friendship, communication, and learning across borders. Thanks to modern technology, Scouts connected with peers around the world from the comfort of a building or while enjoying the outdoors on a campout. Older Scouts also used the international event to work toward their Radio and Citizenship in the World merit badges, combining hands-on skills with a broader understanding of our global Scouting family.

Troop 44 kicked off the weekend by connecting online with Slovakian Scouts on Friday. On Saturday, Scouts learned about radio communication with help from a local amateur radio operator, then made connections of their own, speaking with Scouts and radio operators in the Netherlands, Australia, and upstate New York.

Meanwhile, Pack 13 spent the entire weekend immersed in JOTA-JOTI adventures, completing more than 45 activities. Day 1 included a hike to the city outlook, a Peace Circle, and a street cleanup on the way back to the hut. With 20 participants on the one-mile hike, the pack added 20 miles to its Hike the Planet adventure. Scouts also tackled activities in Morse code, art, health, games, building, and teamwork, and even enjoyed a video chat with Italian Scouts. The final day brought more hands-on fun, including building radios, practicing Morse code, playing Minecraft, and exploring even more learning adventures.

From radio waves to internet connections, JOTA-JOTI showed that Scouting has no borders. Whether connecting from a building, a campsite, or across thousands of miles, our Scouts experienced the excitement of meeting others, learning new skills, and discovering just how connected our world can be!
