Commissioner Corner: Scouting and Trained Leaders
Scouting is built around adventure, learning and service. A trained leader helps make those experiences safe, welcoming and important. Training gives our adult volunteers the skills and confidence to guide our youth, support their growth and put Scouting’s values into action. For Scouts, that means opportunities to learn by doing, take on responsibilities and duties, and being included and feel part of a group. Trained leaders can provide activities that are fun, engaging and of course, age appropriate, all the while creating an environment where Scouts feel safe, are inspired to try new things, grow and learn leadership skills.
The benefits of having a trained leader affect the Scouting program. Trained leaders strengthen safety, keep things steady and encourage teamwork in our youth. This builds trust and confidence, helping our families feel confident in the Scouting unit and its leaders. Most importantly, they make it possible for Scouting to deliver on its promise: helping young people develop skills, character and a sense of being part of the community at large.
Take Action Today!
Make training a priority. Complete your required leader training, encourage fellow volunteers to get trained, and help every Scout experience the very best Scouting has to offer. Visit our Training page to find more training opportunities.
