From Texas to Italy: Liam’s Journey to Eagle Scout

Liam’s Scouting journey began in El Paso, Texas, in the fall of 2017 when he joined the Tiger Den of Pack 3058. What started with a Tiger uniform and a first taste of Cub Scouting would eventually take Liam across the Atlantic, through countless adventures and leadership opportunities, and ultimately to the rank of Eagle Scout.

As a Cub Scout in Texas, Liam participated in pack campouts at adventurous locations including the Old Bliss Replica in Texas, Lake Caballo and Red Rock in New Mexico. He enjoyed the annual Klondike at White Sands National Park, cheering on the Go Chihuahua’s at the annual Scouts baseball game, and, of course, the unforgettable experience of popcorn sales in the Texas heat.

In the winter of 2021, Liam and his family moved to Vicenza, Italy, where he continued his Scouting journey with Troop 295. Like every Scout, he started by learning the fundamentals, earning his Totin’ Chip and Firem’n Chit, making new friends, and completing his first merit badge – Canoeing.

As Liam progressed toward Eagle Scout, his leadership roles reflected his desire to help others learn, grow, and enjoy Scouting as much as he did. He served as Quartermaster, Troop Guide, and Troop Instructor, taking on responsibilities focused on training and equipping his fellow Scouts. He also shared his passion for Scouting as a staff member at Camp Avantura in Croatia.

When Liam reached Life Scout, he turned his attention to his Eagle Scout service project. He chose to address a safety deficiency at a government building on Caserma Miotto, Italy, used by the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade. His project involved constructing a safety railing along an elevated patio and emergency exit path.

Liam took the project seriously from the start. He designed the railing to meet OSHA requirements and worked with engineers from the Army’s Directorate of Public Works to develop and approve his plans. He then briefed his proposal to Deputy Garrison Commander Matt Siefert who described Liam’s project as “the most useful and needed project he’d seen to date.”

Once the project was approved, Liam organized volunteers from Troop 295 and led them through a day of construction to install the safety railing. But Liam didn’t stop there. As an additional project, he reinforced a flimsy countertop along the patio, creating a safer and more comfortable space where building occupants could take a break, enjoy some fresh air, and have their morning coffee.

On August 5, 2026, Liam successfully passed his Board of Review and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at Camp Avantura in Croatia, becoming a member of the Henry Legarre Eagle Scout Class of 2026.

Along the way, Liam earned 33 merit badges, with the Complete Angler award standing out as his favorite Scouting accomplishment. From the deserts of New Mexico and Texas to Italy and the campgrounds of Croatia, Liam has built friendships, developed leadership skills, served others, and found countless ways to contribute to his Scouting community.

As a newly minted Eagle Scout, he plans to continue supporting Troop 295 and his community. Liam hopes to return to Camp Avantura as a staff member, giving back to the camp that has played an important role in his Scouting experience.
