Sun, Sea, Scouting, and Memories to Last a Lifetime at Camp Avantura

There are summer camps—and then there is Camp Avantura.

Set along Croatia’s spectacular Istrian coast, Camp Avantura 2026 brought Scouts, leaders, and staff together for an unforgettable week of adventure, advancement, service, friendship, and fun under the Adriatic sun.

From the moment troops arrived, the energy around camp was unmistakable. Scouts jumped into merit badge classes, challenged themselves in aquatics, launched rockets, explored the night sky, learned new skills, served their fellow Scouts, and discovered just how much they could accomplish in a single week. And what a setting in which to do it.

The warm, sunny weather provided an incredible backdrop for a camp built around adventure. Whether Scouts were canoeing and kayaking, working on Motorboating and Water Sports merit badges, swimming in the Adriatic, or simply watching the sun set across the sea, the Istrian coast made Camp Avantura an experience unlike almost any other Scout camp. But Avantura was about much more than the location.

Throughout the week, Scouts pushed themselves toward their advancement goals. Boards of Review were held throughout camp, Scouts advanced through the early ranks all the way to Life, and Camp Avantura even celebrated new Eagle Scouts. Adult leaders from across the participating troops stepped forward to serve on boards, mentor young people, and help Scouts complete goals they had worked toward for months or even years.

Merit badge areas were equally busy. Scouts explored everything from Game Design and First Aid to aquatics, outdoor skills, science, astronomy, and more. Rockets lifted into the Croatian sky during Space Exploration, while an evening Star Party gave Scouts the opportunity to turn their eyes toward the universe above the Adriatic.

Service was also at the heart of the week. Scouts participated in daily service opportunities, conservation projects, and Order of the Arrow activities that reinforced one of Scouting’s most important lessons: that leadership begins with service to others. OA Day brought Arrowmen together in cheerful service, while Brotherhood candidates continued their own journey within the Order of the Arrow.

Camp was also a place to recognize those who quietly make Scouting better. Commissioner Awards were presented throughout the week to Scouts, leaders, and staff members whose kindness, service, initiative, and Scout spirit stood out. Sometimes that meant helping another Scout prepare for a Board of Review. Sometimes it meant volunteering for a service project, helping launch boats, supporting a program area, or simply being the person who was always willing to lend a hand. Those moments captured what made Avantura special.

Behind every merit badge, rank advancement, boat launch, rocket flight, service project, and campfire were friendships being made. Scouts from different troops and communities spent the week learning together, laughing together, challenging one another, and discovering that the Scouting family stretches far beyond the boundaries of their home units.

Our Camp Avantura staff made it all possible. From the opening days of staff week through the final departures, they worked tirelessly to prepare programs, teach skills, solve problems, encourage Scouts, and create the kind of environment where young people could succeed. Their enthusiasm and cheerful service helped transform a beautiful place on the Adriatic into a true Scout camp.

By the end of the week, there were plenty of tired Scouts and staff but also countless smiles, new ranks, new skills, new friendships, and stories that will be told long after everyone has returned home.

Camp Avantura 2026 reminded us of what happens when great Scouts, dedicated volunteers, an enthusiastic staff, and an extraordinary location come together.

We learned.
We served.
We explored.
We laughed.
We grew.

And somewhere between the sunrises, the Adriatic swims, the campfires, the Boards of Review, and those spectacular Croatian sunsets, we made memories that will last a lifetime.

That is Camp Avantura.
