Scouts Take Aim During RATA Camp in Belgium
08–10 May 2026 | Chièvres Airbase, Belgium
Scouts from gathered at Chièvres Airbase in Belgium for an exciting weekend of Range and Target Activities (RATA) Camp, combining skill development, outdoor adventure, and advancement opportunities for both Scouts BSA and Cub Scouts.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with older Scouts participating in rifle shooting instructions. The weekend continued with the instructions and hands-on training for the Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, and Archery merit badges for the four Scouts.
Saturday brought even more excitement as nine Cub Scouts arrived for the Cub Scout RATA Camp experience. The younger Scouts had the opportunity to safely learn and practice rifle, archery, and slingshot activities under the guidance of trained volunteers and certified range officers. The event provided a fun introduction to target sports while emphasizing safety, sportsmanship, and confidence-building.
A special highlight of the weekend was the presentation of the first Transatlantic Council Triple Target Sports Award to Finn W. from Troop 100, Brunssum. This award recognizes Scouts who demonstrate excellence across the target sport disciplines by completing the Archery, Rifle Shooting, and Shotgun Shooting Merit Badges, along with either a teaching or tournament requirement.

The Triple Target Sports Award celebrates Scouts who are well-rounded in range and target activities and reflects the same spirit of achievement found in the Complete Angler Award program. Scouts who complete the requirements are eligible to purchase and wear the special Triple Target Sports Award patch on their uniform shirt.
More information about the award can be found here:

The success of the weekend would not have been possible without dedicated volunteers and instructors. A special thank you goes out to Martin Smallidge for running the Cub Scout Archery and BB Gun ranges and helping create a safe, engaging, and memorable experience for all participants.
