Moving On Up: What to Know About Scouting America’s June 3rd System Rollover
It’s that time of year again! School is winding down, summer camp planning is heating up, and across the council, Scouts are getting ready to take the next big step in their scouting journey. To keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, Scouting America is executing its Annual Grade and Program Rollover on Wednesday, June 3. If you are a parent, guardian, or unit leader, here is a quick, simple breakdown of exactly what is changing in the system, how it affects your Scout, and what you need to do (spoiler: not a whole lot!).
Grades & Programs
This automated system update does two main things to keep member records accurate for the upcoming scouting year. It is important to note that while the system update happens on June 3, the changes will backdate to have an effective date of June 1.
1. School Grades Advance
Every youth member with a recorded school grade will automatically move up by one.
- A 4th grader becomes a 5th grader, an 8th grader becomes a 9th grader, and so on.
- High School Seniors: Anyone listed in the 12th grade will be updated to “no grade” (null) in the system as they transition out of standard youth school-age brackets.
2. Cub Scout Programs “Roll Over”
For our Cub Scouts, this rollover officially marks their transition into their next adventure rank. The system maps the shift like this:
| Current Program | New Program (As of June 3) |
| Lion (Kindergarten) | Tiger (1st Grade) |
| Tiger (1st Grade) | Wolf (2nd Grade) |
| Wolf (2nd Grade) | Bear (3rd Grade) |
| Bear (3rd Grade) | Webelos (4th Grade) |
| Webelos (4th Grade) | Arrow of Light (5th grade) |
What about family connections? Don’t worry. This is a purely administrative shift for the youth. The system will perfectly preserve all existing parent or guardian relationships created during the initial registration process. You will still have full access to your Scout’s profile.
What Do Leaders and Parents Need to Do?
The short answer? Nothing! The system handles all of these shifts automatically.
- Parents: You don’t need to manually update your child’s grade or re-register them for their new program rank. When you log into your scouting portal after June 3, you should see your Scout’s new grade and program level reflected automatically.
- Unit Leaders: You will have until August 31 to enter any advancement for the current Adventures, Cub Scout awards, or badge of rank.
Hold off on pulling fresh roster reports or shifting your local den structures until Thursday, June 4. This ensures the database has fully completed the rollover cycle, giving you an accurate look at your unit for the new scouting year.
