Troop 295 Vicenza Serves Community During VFW National Day of Service in Italy

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Troop 295 took part in a meaningful community project during the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Day of Service in Vicenza, Italy. This nationwide initiative, organized by the VFW, encourages members and partners around the world to give back to their communities through volunteer service projects that support veterans, local organizations, and public spaces.

The Scouts carried out beautification efforts at Gruppo Pensionati La Rondine. This site is home to the VFW Mediterranean Post 8862, Troop 295’s chartered organization, and serves as an important social hub for local Italian retirees. The project highlighted the strong and positive relationship between the U.S. military-connected Scouting community and their Italian neighbors.

Throughout the day, Scouts demonstrated teamwork, leadership, and a commitment to service. In addition to their service work, Scouts also made progress in their advancement. They worked on merit badges, which are awards that Scouts earn by developing skills and knowledge in specific areas such as first aid, outdoor skills, citizenship, and more. These badges are designed to encourage exploration, learning, and personal growth. Scouts at the event completed requirements in several areas, including First Aid, and also earned the Paul Bunyan Award, an achievement that recognizes advanced skills and knowledge in woods tool use and safety.

Troop 295 extends its sincere appreciation to Vicenza City Councilman Matteo Tosetto for his continued support, as well as to the staff of Gruppo Pensionati La Rondine for their warm hospitality and for providing a traditional Italian meal following the project.

The troop also thanks the members of Mediterranean Post 8862 for their partnership and dedication to the Day of Service. Their support, including providing commemorative t-shirts and hosting a shared meal, helped make the event both productive and memorable. Scouts and veterans alike enjoyed time together, even sharing a friendly game of bocce ball.

Through opportunities like the VFW National Day of Service, Troop 295 Vicenza continues to strengthen community ties, promote leadership, and bring the values of Scouting to life in an international setting.
