RAF Feltwell and RAF Lakenheath Cub Scouts Connect with the World at Jamboree-on-the-Air

Scouts from Pack 404 at RAF Feltwell and Pack 219 at RAF Lakenheath recently took part in an unforgettable international experience at Gilwell Park, the historic home of Wood Badge leadership training. The event brought together Scouts from around the globe for the annual Jamboree-on-the-Air and Jamboree-on-the-Internet, offering a unique blend of adventure, technology, and global connection.

Throughout the weekend, Scouts challenged themselves with a variety of outdoor activities, including climbing, bouldering, and the ever-exciting wobbly pole. These high-energy experiences tested their confidence, balance, and teamwork while delivering plenty of fun and encouragement along the way.

Beyond the physical challenges, Scouts dove into hands-on STEM learning. They spent time soldering electronics using proper protective equipment and safe handling techniques, building practical skills while gaining confidence working with tools and circuits. They also explored how antennas function and how radio communication connects people across vast distances.

One of the most exciting parts of the event was communicating with fellow Scouts around the world. Participants made real-time connections with Scouts in the United States, Norway, and Indonesia, experiencing firsthand how Scouting truly spans cultures and continents.

The highlight of the weekend came during a live amateur radio session with the International Space Station, featuring Jonny Kim. Scouts listened in as the astronaut – also a physician, U.S. Navy officer, aviator, and former Navy SEAL -spoke from orbit, demonstrating the incredible possibilities of science, communication, and exploration.

The weekend at Gilwell Park was an inspiring journey that combined adventure, learning, and global friendship. For the Scouts of Pack 404 and Pack 219, it was a powerful reminder that Scouting can take you anywhere, even to the edge of space.
