Lasting Impact: An Eagle Scout Project Protecting Sea Turtles in Abu Dhabi
Last December in Abu Dhabi, a quiet but powerful Scouting moment unfolded as Erin of Troop 36 received the Eagle Scout Award, an achievement marked not only by dedication and perseverance, but by a deep commitment to service and stewardship.
For her Eagle Service Project, Erin chose to look outward, toward the shoreline of Saadiyat Island, where she partnered with the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi and a local environmental non-profit organization to make a lasting difference. Leading fellow Scouts, she organized the construction and placement of Hawksbill turtle nesting boxes along the beach. These carefully designed shelters help protect fragile sea turtle eggs from extreme heat, predators, and human disturbance, offering new life a safer start in a challenging environment.
What made the project especially meaningful was its lasting impact. Erin didn’t just complete a requirement; she brought Scouts together around a shared purpose and left behind something that will continue to benefit the community and local wildlife for years to come. Her leadership, planning, and passion for conservation reflected the very best of Scouting values in action.
Erin’s journey is an inspiring reminder of what’s possible when service, leadership, and heart come together. Congratulations, Erin, your work is making waves well beyond the shoreline.
