Donor Advised Funds
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a flexible, tax‑advantaged way to centralize your charitable giving and recommend grants to Transatlantic Council and other qualified charities now or over time. Use a DAF to simplify recordkeeping, make immediate impact, or create a lasting family legacy of Scouting support.
How Donor Advised Funds Work
Overview
- Open a fund with a sponsoring organization (community foundation, financial services firm, or the national Scouting DAF).
- Fund the account by transferring cash or other assets; most DAFs have a minimum to open.
- Receive a tax deduction when you contribute to the DAF.
- Recommend grants to qualified charities (you recommend; the sponsoring organization makes distributions).
- Invest and grow — the sponsoring organization manages investments and provides regular accounting.
Scouting Donor Advised Fund and Legacy Options
Scouting DAF
The national Scouting organization administers a Scouting Donor Advised Fund that makes it easy to support Transatlantic Council, NESA, the Order of the Arrow, international Scouting, and other Scouting causes.
Naming TAC as beneficiary
You can name Transatlantic Council as the full or partial beneficiary of your DAF or name family successors to continue recommending grants after your lifetime. Contact your fund administrator for the beneficiary form.
Benefits and Considerations
Key benefits
- Flexibility: Recommend one‑time or recurring grants.
- Immediate tax benefit: Deduction when you fund the DAF.
- Simplified recordkeeping: One gift can support many charities.
- Legacy planning: Name TAC as beneficiary or name successors.
Important considerations
- Gifts to a DAF are irrevocable — choose a sponsoring organization that aligns with your values.
- Fees and investment performance vary by sponsor and affect grantable amounts.
- Policies differ (minimums, grant frequency, administrative rules) — review sponsor procedures before opening a fund.
