One Council, Many Communities, One Shared Commitment to Service
Join Black Eagle Lodge and Scouts across the council in putting cheerful service into action.
Food insecurity affects communities everywhere, including the places we call home. Through Scouting for Food, Arrowmen and Scout units across the Transatlantic Council are invited to make a difference by collecting food, supporting local food drives, and partnering with organizations that help people in need.
Inspired by Scouting America’s National Day of Service on November 14, this council-wide initiative runs now through December 31, 2026. You can organize a project, join an existing effort, or support a local organization at any point during this period. Every can collected, donation delivered, and person inspired to serve helps make our communities stronger.
Our council spans many communities and countries, giving us an opportunity to make an impact wherever we live. No project is too small, and you don’t need to wait until November 14 to get started!
How to Participate
There are many ways for Arrowmen, Scout units, and their families to get involved between now and December 31:
Organize a local food drive. Work with your unit to collect nonperishable food donations from neighbors, families, and community members. Arrange a beneficiary before you begin collecting and keep SYT in mind.
Join an existing food drive. Team up with a local school, community organization, or another group already collecting food.
Partner with a food pantry or food bank. Help collect, sort, or deliver donations in coordination with a local organization.
Bring others into the effort. Invite a neighboring Scout unit, your school, or another community group to join you.
Get Cub Scouts involved. Adult Arrowmen active in Cub Scout packs are encouraged to include their packs, giving younger Scouts an opportunity to experience the value of community service.
Projects can take place at any time during the initiative, from now through December 31, 2026. November 14 is a key day to rally around as Scouting America’s National Day of Service, but it is not the only day to serve.
Before You Collect: Arrange a Beneficiary
Before collecting food, make sure you have a beneficiary arranged in advance. Identify a food bank, food pantry, community organization, or another local group that can accept and distribute your donations. Contact the organization before launching your collection to confirm that it can receive your donations and determine what items it needs and how and when donations should be delivered. This helps ensure that the food you collect reaches people who can benefit from it. Once you’ve arranged a beneficiary, choose the approach that works best for your community.
Help Us Show the Impact of Scouting for Food
Black Eagle Lodge is driving this effort to bring together the service of Arrowmen and Scout units across the Transatlantic Council. By sharing your plans and reporting your results, you help us tell the story of what our Scouting community can accomplish together.
Step 1
Tell us your plan.
Complete the Scouting for Food Event Notification Form to let the lodge know what your unit is doing. Whether you’re organizing a new food drive or joining an existing project, sharing your plans helps us promote your event and connect others with opportunities to serve.
Step 3
Report your results.
After your project, complete the Scouting for Food Report Form. Share what your unit accomplished so Black Eagle Lodge can bring together the results and measure the collective impact of our efforts.
Please report your project even if you participated in an existing food drive rather than organizing your own.
Step 2
Spread the word.
Use the flyers below to let your community know about your collection. The fillable flyers include space for your collection or pickup date, contact information, unit details, and collection location and times.
