USAG Stuttgart Honors Black Eagle Lodge Arrowmen as Volunteers of the Year

USAG Stuttgart recently celebrated outstanding community service during its annual Volunteer of the Year ceremony hosted by Army Community Service, recognizing individuals who make a lasting impact across the installation. This year, two Eagle Scouts of the Black Eagle Lodge, Order of the Arrow, were honored for their exceptional contributions to the community.

Nick G., Chapter Chief of Achwon Woapalanne, was named Volunteer of the Year – Youth. Known for his servant leadership at every level of Scouting, Nick has strengthened youth-led programs, mentored fellow Scouts, improved unit operations, and helped secure funding to reduce costs for families. He also serves on the National Youth Council, representing Scouts across the country and helping shape the future of the program. He continues to balance academic excellence, community service, and national leadership while inspiring others to serve.

Col. Nick Dickson, Chapter Advisor for Achwon Woapalanne, was named Volunteer of the Year – Military Member. Through his role as Scoutmaster, he has sustained high-impact service that has strengthened unit structure and program quality, including stabilizing troops during leadership transitions and expanding adult leadership support. His efforts have improved safety, participation, and long-term program sustainability while fostering a more inclusive, Scout-led environment.

The honorees were recognized by the USAG Stuttgart command team, including Garrison Commander Colonel Edward Sanford, Garrison Command Sergeant Major Christopher Melendez, and Deputy to the Garrison Commander Mr. Robert Gwinner. A longtime supporter of Scouting and an Eagle Scout himself, Mr. Gwinner was presented with the Month of the Military Child council shoulder patch by Nick G. as a token of appreciation.

In a spirit of gratitude, Nick G. and Col. Dickson also recognized Army Community Service for its continued support of volunteers across the installation, presenting ACS representative Haydee Muro with a certificate of appreciation and a council shoulder patch.

The ceremony, held during both National Volunteer Month and Month of the Military Child, was a fitting reminder of the power of service and the lasting impact volunteers have on youth, families, and the community.
